What hydroxyapatite does in toothpaste

Hydroxyapatite is the same mineral that teeth are made of. In nano form, its particles bond with the enamel surface, filling micro-defects and exposed dentinal tubules. The effect: smoother enamel, less sensitivity to cold and heat, and support for remineralization after acidic meals. It has been a recognized anti-cavity ingredient in Japan since 1993; it appeared in toothpastes in Europe and the USA over the last decade.

How much hydroxyapatite makes sense

Manufacturers list varying concentrations, and studies typically cover the 5–15% range. Ollie Clean Mint has 10% nHAp and only 11 ingredients. PrevDent nHAp — 15% plus potassium nitrate if sensitivity is your primary concern. BOKA does not state the percentage, but it is one of the brands that popularized nHAp in the USA — and it has the most interesting flavors. BOKA Kids is a version for children. LEBON includes hydroxyapatite in its formula alongside xylitol, aloe, and green tea (manufacturer does not provide concentration) — this is a choice for those who primarily care about natural ingredients and taste.

Does hydroxyapatite replace fluoride?

Is hydroxyapatite safe?
