What to look for in a child's toothpaste

Small children may swallow some toothpaste, which is why the right amount of product and adult supervision during brushing are especially important. Current dental guidelines mostly recommend a fluoride-containing toothpaste for children, with the amount adjusted to their age. If you are considering a fluoride-free formula, especially if there is an increased risk of cavities, it is worth discussing the choice with a pediatric dentist. The second ingredient worth noting is SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate): it is responsible for foaming, but it irritates the mucous membrane in some children. The third is taste: if a child doesn't like the toothpaste, they will brush their teeth for a short time or not at all.

What we have

BOKA Kids in three flavors: Strawberry Mango, Watermelon Mint, and Orange Cream. All are free of fluoride, SLS, and parabens, and feature nano-hydroxyapatite to support the remineralization of primary and permanent tooth enamel. The 113 g tube lasts a long time. For older children (6 years and up, according to the manufacturer), PrevDent is also a good option.

Frequently asked questions

From what age can BOKA Kids be used?

The manufacturer intends it for children; use under adult supervision and in an amount appropriate for their age (for the youngest — a smear of paste, for older children — a pea-sized amount).

Is a fluoride-free toothpaste enough for a child?

Nano-hydroxyapatite is being researched for enamel remineralization in children and has been used in children's toothpastes in Japan for decades. If your child is prone to cavities, ask your pediatric dentist for their recommendation.

Which flavor to choose?

Strawberry Mango is a classic fruity flavor that most children accept. Watermelon Mint has a slightly refreshing note — for children who are starting to move on to "adult" flavors. Orange Cream is creamy and orange-flavored.

Does BOKA Kids foam?

Minimally — it does not contain SLS. This is normal and does not mean the toothpaste cleans less effectively.
