LEBON — what kind of brand is it? A French toothpaste with scents from Grasse

Most toothpastes taste the same: mint, or sometimes mint with something else. LEBON began by asking why. This French brand composes its aromas in Grasse — where perfume has been created since the 19th century — and packages them in tubes that look like cosmetics, not pharmacy equipment. In this article, we explain where LEBON came from, what is in its ingredients, how it differs from other toothpastes in our selection, and which flavor to choose first.

Where does LEBON come from?

LEBON was founded in 2015 by Stéphanie and Richard Palacci. She is an art historian and photographer, and he is a pharmacist with a degree in dermocosmetology. This division of roles is evident in the product: aesthetics and flavor on one side, composition and ingredient safety on the other. The idea, according to the manufacturer, was born on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica from a simple observation: "functional" toothpastes offer no pleasure, while "fashionable" toothpastes often cut corners on ingredients. LEBON was meant to combine both.

The toothpastes are produced in France, and the aromas are created in collaboration with a historic perfume house from Grasse. The brand’s motto is "Soin actif, plaisir addictif" — active care, addictive pleasure. A bit of French exaggeration, but it captures what this is all about.

A flavor composed like a perfume

In a typical toothpaste, "mint flavor" is just one entry on the list of additives. At LEBON, the aroma is built like a perfume composition: it has a base and top notes, and the flavor changes while you brush. That is why the descriptions resemble those of fragrances rather than dental products.

At Dentistique, we have four variants:

• Cap Ferrat Mood — clean, fresh mint inspired by mornings on the French Riviera. The most "classic" LEBON.
• Sweet Extravagance — rose and orange blossom against a background of sweet mint. Creamy, floral, and closest to a perfume.
• Tropical Crush — pineapple and rooibos with a hint of mint. Summery, and sweeter than the others.
• Noacarlina — cinnamon with mint. Warm and spicy; for those who like cinnamon flavors.

The manufacturer also offers other compositions (including ylang-ylang with yuzu or blackcurrant with mint). For our store, we chose four that well represent the brand's range: from safe mint to flavors intended to surprise.

What's inside

Flavor is not the only thing that distinguishes LEBON from drugstore toothpaste. The formula contains over 98% naturally derived ingredients and several active ingredients that the manufacturer describes directly:

• Hydroxyapatite — a mineral that makes up about 97% of our enamel. In the toothpaste, it is intended to fill in micro-defects and smooth the tooth surface; it is widely studied for enamel remineralization and sensitivity. LEBON does not state its concentration or form (nano or classic).
• Xylitol — a plant-based sweetener that does not feed cavity-causing bacteria and stimulates saliva secretion.
• Organic green tea — a source of polyphenols (catechins) with antioxidant properties; meant to soothe sensitive gums.
• Organic aloe vera — soothes the gums; one of two ingredients with an organic certificate.
• Organic papaya (papain) — an enzyme that helps remove surface stains from coffee, tea, or wine without abrading the enamel.
• Hyaluronic acid — moisturizes the mucosa and creates a thin protective layer on the gums.
• Codium fragile — a marine algae rich in calcium, magnesium, and potassium; rarely found in oral care.

What is missing: SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate), PEG, titanium dioxide, and artificial colors. The toothpaste is sweetened with stevia, the formula is vegan, and it is not tested on animals. LEBON, BOKA, or Ollie — how they differ

Our selection includes three brands that are easy to lump together as "modern toothpaste with a short ingredient list." However, the differences are clear.

BOKA and Ollie focus on nano-hydroxyapatite as the main active ingredient — Ollie states its concentration directly (10%), and BOKA has built its entire brand around nHAp. These are choices for people who buy toothpaste based on the "ingredient": remineralization, sensitivity, and an alternative to classic formulas.

LEBON contains hydroxyapatite, but it is not the star here. The star is the flavor and the ritual: a toothpaste you reach for because brushing becomes more pleasant, while the ingredients remain readable and understandable. If you primarily care about a declared concentration of nHAp, Ollie or PrevDent will work better. If you want your bathroom to look better and your morning to taste different — LEBON.

Which flavor to choose first

If you don't know where to start — Cap Ferrat Mood. It is fresh mint without surprises, while still offering the full LEBON formula. If you like teas and floral scents, reach for Sweet Extravagance. Tropical Crush is the safest of the "strange" flavors — pineapple in toothpaste sounds risky, but in practice, it is simply sweeter and fruity. Noacarlina is for people who already know they like cinnamon; we recommend others start with something else.

The tube is 75 ml, and with twice-daily brushing, it lasts for about a month. A good way to start is with two flavors to rotate — mint in the morning, something sweeter in the evening.

For whom does LEBON make sense

Does LEBON toothpaste contain SLS?

No. LEBON does not use sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), PEG, or titanium dioxide. Because of this, it foams more gently than typical drugstore toothpaste.

Does LEBON whiten teeth?

Not in a chemical sense — there are no peroxides in the composition. Papain (an enzyme from papaya) helps remove surface stains from coffee, tea, or wine, and hydroxyapatite smooths the enamel, so teeth may look cleaner and brighter.
